Vijayendra Ghatge belongs to the Maratha royal Kagal family. Therefore, he is a cousin to the Maharaja from Kolhapur. Sitaraje Ghatge is Ghatge’s maternal grandmother. She is the daughter of Maharaja Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar III, Indore, his American-born third wife Nancy Miller. Ghatge was adopted by Nancy Miller and assumed the name Sharmishtha Devi Holkar when he married the Maharaja.

He is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Sagarika Ghatge father, but he is the uncle of Sagarika Ghatge, an Indian actress.
